Joe seems to be changing on a daily basis at the moment. The day before yesterday he sat up on his own from lying on his tummy for the first time and he is starting to do something more akin to proper crawling. It’s kind of a “crab walk” with one foot and one knee on the ground. He hasn’t quite mastered it yet so he usually reverts to his tummy slide if he wants to get somewhere fast. Anyway the net result of all this is that he can get up from lying down and trundle off to where he wants to be then sit back down to play or investigate something.
We had a day trip to Geneva yesterday which turned into a very long day! First going to Ikea in Aubonne and then back to Geneva and then on to visit a friend in Neyden where we were invited to stay for dinner. It was midnight by the time we got home. Joe was very good all day and seemed to cope with it all better than I did!
Here is episode 2 of our family podcast, the First Day of the Ski Season. We spent an hour up at Le Betex taking it in turns to ski whilst the other looked after Joe. He seemed to find it funny with his mum on huge slippery ‘feet’ !
After a single snowfall this year they actually managed to open a few runs up at the ski area on Saturday. We all went up for a play on the beginner’s slope. Me and Si took turns to hold Joe while the other skied. Joe thought it was hysterical to see mummy sliding around on big feet!
After two years of not skiing it came back after a shaky start. The snow was actually okay if a bit patchy (bit like my skiing)! It has warmed up though and rained since saturday so all the snow has gone from around the flat and it’s pretty miserable weather today. I think they’ve also closed the pistes again - probably to save them for christmas week. They was a light snow fall higher up during the night so at least the pistes weren’t distroyed by rain!
Yesterday while Joe was chewing Si’s finger he thought he felt a tooth. Joe adamantly kept his mouth shut then but lots of careful probing since seems to show there are two teeth visible but still just beneath his gums so probably anyday now they will make an appearance. It’s good he’ll have teeth but I’ll miss his gummy little smile!
He’s much more settled these days - we have a better routine for him which make it’s difficult for us to do things but better for him - he’s sleeping and eating much better now. Haven’t weighed him for a week or so but after a month or two of no weight gain I think he is finally putting on the pounds (well ounces) again. He can scoot round the flat at high speed on his tummy but still hasn’t worked out the more efficient method of crawling. He’s walking all over now as long as we hold him up and he’ll happily walk up my front to my face if I let him.
Some photos of Joseph from the Autumn. He seems to have developed so fast in the last few months !

Yesterday Joseph started saying “Da Da” quite clearly. He’s been trying to get his mouth around the sound for a while but he seemed to work it out yesterday !
It’s really funny to hear, but I don’t think he actually associates it with his Daddy !!
The first snow of the season arrived tonight outside the flat - Hope it will stay around till tomorrow so Joe gets a chance to see it.
For Jospeh’s first few months, I would not really notice changes from day to day. I would just realise that sometime in the past few weeks he had changed in some way; it was very gradual, but definitely happening.
At the moment though I am noticing changes almost every day. His development seems to be faster than at any time before at the moment. It really is incredible. First he realised he could drag himself around, so get to where he wanted to go. He has also learnt to pull on my hands to get into a standing position. Then he suddenly learnt to make a walking motion, and started ‘walking’ around while we held him in balance under the arms. This morning he worked out that while lying on his tummy, he could tuck his knees under and then grabbing me or Tracey he could pull himself into a standing position. He has been trying the tucking knees thing for a while, but today it just came together. He has also started to realise that he can probably do the same using bits of furniture to pull up on, but hasn’t yet managed to do it.He has also got quite good in using me to walk around - by holding my arms, and then reaching to a bit of furniture and transferring to using that to support himself ! He even managed to balance on his own standing for about a second this afternoon (I think that was a fluke!)I’m finding it all quite amazing. We can hardly keep up with what he’s learning!
